Abstract

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify recent trend of exercise for Climacteric Women and their effectiveness in Korea by utilizing a systematic review.

Methods: The PICO (Population, Intervention, Comparator, Outcome) strategy was applied, 34 studies published the last ten-year period from four electronic databases were reviewed. Nine references that met inclusion and exclusion criteria were selected.

Results: All 9 references were quasi-experimental research design. Mean ages of populations were 40 to 60 years old. Period of interventions was usually 12 wks, and the frequency was usually 3 times a week. Types of exercise interventions were aerobic exercises, muscular strength reinforcement, muscular relaxation program and stretching. The most frequently used dependant variables were climacteric symptoms, serum lipids, depression, body composition, quality of life, anxiety, and stress in order. This review revealed that exercise intervention for climacteric women were effective in climacteric symptoms, physical, and socio-psychological health.

Conclusion: Based upon this review, there is an evidence that exercise interventions are an effective method for improving physical, socio-psychological health and reducing climacteric symptoms. The results of this study provided basis for the development of intervention programs to improve health of climacteric women.
